The last time I had a hankering for candy was in high school, and Now & Laters were the culprit. Today, I’m a slave for chocolate, dark, dark, darker the better but I digress. It so happens I have a strong curiosity for other cultures, so when a Swedish friend told me about Sockerbit, a Scandinavian candy store in the West Village, the first thing that popped in my head wasn’t, “Yummy, sugar!” It was, “Ohmigod, the design of the store must be fabulous.” Hands-down, the Nordic countries’ minimalist design that is highly functional is well known. But I digress, again.
Indeed, the candy shop was spare and white with little distraction except for the entire wall of candy. This time, I did say to myself, “Ooooh, candy!,” and proceeded to pick and choose sweets that were considered all-time classics. And the kicker: none of their candy contain corn syrup!
Here’s what I bought! {Last photo, clockwise from top left: Sockerbitar, the original Swedish marshmallow; Sockrade jordgubbar, as close to the real strawberry as a piece of candy can get; cola nappar, cola-flavored pacifers; skogsbar, very berries!; punsch punsch, the grown-up chocolate with a taste of liqueur}

I was on Christopher St last month and walked by this place! I'm going in the next time - I never turn down candy.
